STEVEN ALVIN HEFFNER was born in York, Pennsylvania, in 1952.

He attended and completed a three-year study program at the York Academy of Art under the instruction of William Falkler.

A farm boy, Steven grew up in the River Hills of Southern York County and in the Pine Creek Gorge of Lycoming County.

Accomplished in a wide variety of styles, Heffner defines eclectic. His steel sculptures are bold and directional as is his striking style of post-impressionistic painting.

Heffner’s style can best be defined as boldly traditional impressionism reaching into the light, grounded in the good earth.

In addition to Heffner’s passion for art, he and his wife, Patricia, own and operate a toy train business. B&E Junction Electric Trains is located in downtown York, PA.

Not only is Heffner an artist and business-owner, he has operated his own construction company. He has been a model-maker, a furniture designer, a machinist, a preparator, a carpenter, a welder, an accomplished illustrator, and graphic designer. Previously, Steven was the director of The Commerce Fine Art Studio, and is currently the director of Studio 323 in downtown York.

Steven finds himself drawn to the Southwestern deserts and the Caribbean Islands, but his first love will always be the Susquehanna Valley.

Crossing The Channel – When Steven was a small boy in 1958… The movie classic ‘The Vikings’ made such a strong impression on his young mind that 10 years later in 1969, he painted this Viking Long Ship from memory. As a small child he could simply not understand why there were no Viking ships in the Susquehanna.
